Gerard A. Desjardins, 68, of Endicott, NY, passed away peacefully at the Cleveland Clinic on August 8, 2016 after a courageous battle with multiple heart and lung issues. He was predeceased by his parents Jules and Laurette Desjardins and his granddaughter Kaydence. Gerard is survived by Bonnie, his loving wife of 44 years, his sons: Christopher and his wife Elisa Hurley and Steven and his fiancé Debra Pike, treasured grandchildren Dylan, Liam, Felix, Madison, Ashleigh and Michael. He also leaves behind his sisters and brothers-in-law: Anne Desjardins and Randy Kane, Claire Desjardins, Jeanne Spaulding and Therese and Kerry Anderson, as well as, his second family including his mother-in-law Phyllis Roh and his wife’s siblings: Fred and Cynthia Roh, John Roh and Susan Bromley-Roh and Wendy and Frank Jenks: and many nieces and nephews. Gerard was born and raised in Bangor, Maine. He graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Electrical Engineering. He was employed by IBM, Loral and Lockheed Martin in Owego, NY, for 32 years and held a number of US patents on his innovative work. Gerard was a faithful member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, an active member of Boy Scout Troop 208 and after his retirement, delivered meals for Meals on Wheels. He was a man of great intelligence and integrity. He enjoyed gardening, photography, travel, reading, computer games and his daily walks through the neighborhood. Most of all, he loved his family and delighted in his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed. Our deepest gratitude goes out to the many family and friends who supported him with their love and prayers throughout his illness.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday 11 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 701 West Main Street, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the Allen memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott Friday evening from 6-8 pm.
