Graydon “Stub” Frazier

Graydon (Stub) Leroy Frazier of Endicott, NY passed peacefully at 95 years old in Mercy House of the Southern Tier, Endicott, NY on July 14, 2021, of natural causes.
Stub was born in Endicott, NY January 28, 1926, to Paul T. Frazier and Hattie Frazier (Pierce). He was raised in Apalachin, NY. He graduated Union-Endicott High School in 1943 and went on to Syracuse University before joining the Army as a surgical technician in 1944. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and managed the enlisted men who worked in the Operating Room at a U.S Army hospital during the post-war occupation of Japan. It is here he met the love of his life, Lucille Sara Kamas, an Army Lieutenant Nurse. After discharge in 1946 they eloped and married in Penn Yan, NY on June 20, 1946. They were happily married with a multitude of adventures for 67 years, until Lucille passed in 2013.
Following the war, as a self-taught, general building contractor, designer, and excavator he cofounded Frazier & Son, Inc. and Mountain Top Development with his father and later became President until 2002 when his son, Gregory took over. He was honored in building the “Better Homes and Garden” house of the year in 1958. He was an active member of the New York State Builders Association and served as President. He was owner/partner/manager of Graydon Apartments, Cambridge Square Apartments, Oakdale Arms Apartments and Jefferson Court Apartments up until his death.
As owner of Stony Ridge Farm, he bred 116 registered Pure or Part –Bred Arabian horses and owned or trained over a dozen National Champions and three dozen winners or riders. Arguably, he helped set the standard for the National Show Horse with the first National Champ Filly, Hot N Sweet, who was the dam of multiple National Champion Stallions. He was a member of Empire State Arabian Horse Association. He helped start the first All Arabian Dressage horse shows and national high-point system, supported the Youth Judging Team and Youth Group. He was a member of District 2 National Show Horse Association and International Arabian Horse Association, serving on National Dressage Show committee.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Endicott, on the Board of Directors, Youth Group and Boy Scout Troop supporter. He was a member of the Endwell Rotary Club, served as President and host family for foreign exchange students.
He loved interacting with people, telling stories, world travel, children, his horses and dogs, flying his twin engine airplane, if even to get only his favorite strawberry pie.
He had straight forward honesty and integrity, as his handshake was his word and bond. He had a quirky smile with a special twinkle in his eye of devilishness. He had playful humor and a practical joker. He was incredibly generous to family. He was a good listener and negotiator but could be stubborn.
He is preceded by his parents Paul and Hattie Frazier (Pierce); wife Lucille Frazier (Kamas); and son Gregory Frazier.
He is survived by daughter: Judy Frazier Black; husband, John Black of Endwell, NY.
Sons: Dr. Jon Frazier; wife, Julie and children: Isabelle, Sarah, and Elizabeth of Newburgh, IN; Dr. James Frazier; husband, Brian McCarthy of Chicago, IL: Dr. Joel Frazier and Richard McCorkel of Ripon, CA.
Grandchildren: Douglas Black; wife, Amanda McClean and children: Fiona and Garrett of Washington, D.C. Geoffrey Frazier; wife, Tara and children: Cameron, Alec and Biella of Albany, NY.
Dr. Derek Frazier: wife, Priscilla and children: Lucas and Julian of Tucson, AZ. Dr. Nicholas Frazier and Dr. Ida Nourbakhsh of Salt Lake City, UT. Brother: Durwood Frazier of Boca Raton, FL and niece: Debra Tonachel (Frazier) of Eastsound, WA.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday 10 am at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Friday from 4-6 pm.The family would like to specifically recognize and thank Grace and Mark Deno along with Theresa Maney for their friendship, dedication, and the extraordinary care given to Graydon over the past several years of his life.
