Grazia Salati

October 15, 1922 — December 11, 2012

Grazia Salati of Endicott, NY was greeted into heaven by her husband Domenick and infant son Mario on Tuesday, December 11, 2012. She left this world at Lourdes Hospital gently holding hands with her loving family and dear close friends Don Bergin and Mary Calcagnini. She was predeceased by her parents, Luciano and Geltruda Giuliani and her sister Tommasina Lisi. She is survived by her sons Mario and Orazio, her grandchildren Brian and wife Colleen, David, great granddaughters Aubrey Grace and Lucy Anne, who held a special place in her heart. Also surviving her are many nieces and nephews all residing in Italy. Grazia was born in Arnara, Providence of Frosinone, Italy and immigrated to the United States with her family in 1955. She loved this country very much, becoming a proud American citizen in 1960 making sure she voted in every election. Grazia worked briefly in her father’s restaurant, The Station Inn, and for a few years at the Endicott Dress Factory. She retired from the Endicott Johnson Corporation in 1987. Grazia was a longtime member of St. Anthony of Padua Church and the Independent Mutual Aid Society. She was a fantastic cook and family and friends enjoyed her numerous delicious holiday dinners. She especially enjoyed making her favorite homemade chickenand beef soup for her grandchildren. Grazia had a green thumb, as she had plentiful vegetable and beautiful flower gardens. Her smile brightened and spirits lifted when she recently celebrated her 90th year with family and friends at Nirchi’s Restaurant. The family would like to thank the staff of Violet Court at Ideal Nursing Center for their wonderful care and she especially appreciated the many years of loving care by Dr. Steven Malkin and his staff. Special thanks to Sister Anisia of St. Anthony’s for her visits, prayers, warm hugs and smiles. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 17, 2012 at 9:30 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Odell Avenue, Endicott. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 2 to 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the St. Anthony Food Pantry or American Diabetes Association, 356 North Midler Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13206 or American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241. Grazia had great wit and loved telling many stories of her life growing up in Italy.she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. “Mamma, amore, pace e riposo eterno.”
