H. Lansing Jones

H. Lansing Jones, 90, of 286 Deyo Hill Road, Johnson City, died on Sunday, March 29, 2015. He was born in Buffalo, NY on January 13, 1925. He was the son of the late Lynott and Mary Elizabeth Hughes Jones. Upon graduation from high school in Buffalo, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a gunner on B-24s in Italy. After completing his service in 1945, Lans entered the University of Michigan and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. He later received his master’s degree from Syracuse University. Lans married Beverly Clingman in 1949 in New Orleans, LA. A few years later, he joined IBM and relocated his family to Endicott, NY. He became a senior engineer/manager at IBM and eventually became a member of IBM’s Quarter Century Club. Lans loved the outdoors and participated in hiking, running, biking, sailing, SCUBA diving, skiing, tennis, bow hunting, shooting, and kayaking. He was a certified ski instructor for handicapped skiers. Lans enjoyed traveling, tinkering with cars, wood working, computers, and electronics. He was an avid supporter of the Binghamton Philharmonic and the Tri-Cities Opera. Lans is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly (Clingman) Jones. He is also survived by three sons, Bruce and his wife Deborah of West Hartford, CT, David and his wife Anne Marie of Binghamton, NY, and William and his wife Pam of Cromwell, CT. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren: Sabrina, Sara Meghan, Rachael, Charlotte, Russell, Morgan, Reed, Bruce, and Luke and two great-grandchildren: Mia and Isabella. Lans was predeceased by his son Carl, who died in 1977, and his brother Richard O. Jones who died in 2004.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 10:30 AM in the auditorium at the Hilltop Campus of United Methodist Homes, 286 Deyo Hill Road, Johnson City, NY. The Reverend Jan Devine of First Presbyterian Church, Endicott and the Reverend Lea Harding of United Methodist Homes will officiate. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM. All are invited to attend a luncheon in the auditorium immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of H. Lansing Jones can be made to CHOW (Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse), 3 Otseningo Street, Binghamton, NY 13903.
