Harry Andrew Dougherty 97, of Endicott, NY, son of Louis B. and Clara McHale Dougherty of Pittston, PA passed away on February 8, 2021. He was predeceased in death by his parents, 4 siblings: Gene, Billy, Louis and Ann Marie; son-in-law, George Callender, daughter-in-law, Lucille Tammetta Dougherty, and his wife who was his high school sweetheart, Mary. Harry & Mary were married on March 20, 1943. He is survived by his 6 children and their spouses: Louanne Callender, Ned & Joann Dougherty, Tom Dougherty, Beth & Ken Braun, Kay & Paul Columbia, and Jerry and Barbara Dougherty. There are 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 5 great- great grandchildren.
Harry served in the Navy from July 31, 1943 to January 21, 1946 on LSM 131. He was employed as an electrian in Pittston, PA moved to Endicott and worked for GE, the Post Office and then spent 29 years with IBM. He enjoyed basketball, baseball, golfing, bowling, volunteering for the Red Cross, American Legion, and was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He also loved to travel – quite often it was to spend time with his grandchildren and supporting them in their activities.
Harry’s favorite sport was baseball. In their trips across the country, they would pick their stops based on ballpark locations. Later in his retirement he would visit his sons in FL and attend all of the Phillies Spring training games. He was especially honored to throw out the first pitch on his 90th birthday and his following 3 birthdays.
The funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 20th at St. Joseph Catholic Church – 207 Hayes Ave (it will be live stream); burial will follow at Riverhurst Cemetery – 2500 E Main Street Endwell. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to Knights of Columbus Council #1839 705 W Main Street Endicott, NY 13760.
