Helen Margaret Weaver Dougherty, 93, returned to God Friday, June 21, 2013 at Castle Gardens, Vestal, NY. She was born on July 7, 1919 in Adams County, PA, to John and Bernadina Weaver. Helen grew up in McSherrystown, PA.She graduated from St Mary’s High School in McSherrystown in 1937. After high school she attended St Joseph’s School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA where she received a R.N. Helen married Edwin Dougherty in 1950 in McSherrystown, PA. They were happily married for 63 years. Ed and Helen retired to Lake Pine, NJ in 1987.Lake Pine was her favorite place to live as she spent most of her summers there after marrying Ed.She loved to travel the Lake with Ed in their paddle boat.Helen was a life member of VFW 1449 ladies Auxiliary, a member of American Legion Unit 1700.She was president of Knights of Columbus 1839 ladies Auxiliary. She loved crafts of all kinds, including crochet and decoupage.Helen is survived by her beloved spouse Ed; her children Dan (Gail) of Portland, OR; Mike of Syracuse, NY; Pat (John) Van Wezenbeeck of Endicott, NY; Tim (Pam) of Endicott, NY; and Cathy (Mark) Shore of Salem, NH; her brother George Weaver, 14 grandchildren and a great grandson. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bernadina; and her sisters Cas, Jo, and Angie and her brother Paul.Funeral Services will be held Monday 9:30 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 10 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, Sunday from 2-5 pm.In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515 Northampton, MA 01061-0515
