Helen L. Madsen of Vestal New York passed away peacefully at home with her loving daughters Sandee Knapik, Maria McCarthy and son-in-law Kevin McCarthy by her side. She was predeceased by her childhood sweetheart her husband Norman O. Madsen, her parents Vincent and Maria “Rose” Cotignola her siblings Francis, Marie and Joseph as well as several lifelong friends, Reet, Moe, Jack and Van. She is also survived by her granddaughter Amber Rose (Brush) Mella, her husband Matthew and the sunshine of her life that kept her going throughout her illness her great granddaughter Madilyn Rose who called her “GG”. Her step grandsons Quinn and Drew McCarthy and their families. Her son Norman Madsen and many loving nieces and nephews. Several very close friends who have been through so much with her, Pat, Carol, Sandy “Yo”, Donna, Mary and Leni Z. her childhood friend who has the best stories to share. She was Mom Madsen or “Mars” to many through the years. Her door was always open, fridge filled and food on the table. Her house was a second home or shelter to many for they knew they were always welcome and the kitchen table was where many lively conversations occurred. She was an excellent singer and was a professional Jazz singer in the 40’s but gave it up to become a wife and mother. But she was known to belt out a song or two at a family or friends wedding or just because she felt like singing. She loved to spend her summers at the Jersey Shore, going on cruises and trips to the casino. She was an avid P.C.H. participant always waiting for the balloons to arrive. We would like to thank the wonderful support and love we received from Hospice and the care they showed her, Joanne, Hillary, Renee and Hannah as well as all the others that came to care for her. Thank you to Deacon Dale who came up weekly to see her.
