Commander Howard G. Miller (U.S. Navy, Retired) of Glen Aubrey died on May 8, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathy (Pluta) Miller, of Glen Aubrey. He is also survived by his four children, Chandra Manning (Derek), Nicole Eck (Brian), Kevin Miller (Ashlee), and David Miller (Paige), as well as nine grandchildren: Aidan and Kieran Manning; Michael Eck; Kaylyn, Kullen, Thomas, and Charlotte Miller; Hannah and Danny Miller. Additionally he is survived by brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Virginia Pluta, their daughter, Elizabeth, and her daughter, Leiliani, brother-in-law, Tim Pluta, and by brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ted and Beth Pluta. For twenty-four years, he served in the United States Navy and was one of the first officers to fly S-3 anti-submarine aircraft. He later worked for the Raymond Corporation and Universal Instruments. He was a member of the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows. As a pilot, Howard knew to “trust your instruments” when navigating. His country, his faith, his books, his dog, and especially his beloved wife were his instruments in his life, and now they have guided him home.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7 PM at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main Street, Endicott. A Prayer Service will be held on Friday at the Allen Memorial Home at 9 AM followed by burial in Maine Cemetery with Military Honors. A Requiem Mass will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, 546 Ashley Road, Maine, NY.
