Isabelle H. Kowalski of Vestal, NY, went home to the Lord on August 25, 2014, just two days before her 87th birthday. She passed away in Lourdes Hospital Comfort Care. Isabelle grew up in Dickson City, PA, where she met and married her husband of 67 years, Stanley E. Kowalski. She attended secretarial school, became a homemaker and later worked as a bookkeeper for a construction company. Isabelle was a long time resident of Vestal, where she raised four children, ever encouraging them to pursue their goals and dreams. She has always been a model of perseverance, fortitude, and courage to her family. An active member of the Stroke Support Group for 26 years and an occasional volunteer for the American Heart Association, Isabelle openly shared her experiences as a caregiver for the benefit of others. She loved gardening, especially tending her roses. She enjoyed camping trips with her family and running her own garage sale every summer. Isabelle was predeceased by her parents, Chester and Helen Zalewski; her brother, Chester; and her sister, Irene Chmielewski. She is survived by her husband, Stanley; her children, Stan Jr., Sandra, Janet Bernardin, and Christopher; by her grandchildren, Tara, Andrew, Lindsay, Nicholas, and Christian; and by six nieces. The family wishes to thank the stellar staffs of Susquehanna Rehabilitation Center and Lourdes Hospital Seton 1 for their quality care and exceptional kindnesses shown to their beloved mother.
