J. “Bill” William Murphy

J. William Murphy, 87, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 28, 2015. He was predeceased by his wife Rosemarie, his parents William and Agnes and siblings Rita, Genevieve, Gerald, Raymond and Marion. He was the proud father of Susan (Gary) Megelick, Nancy Murphy and Bill (Stacey) Murphy; loving grandfather of Daniel, Christopher (C.J.), Ryan and Ethan, all of whom were a great source of joy, also survived by his beloved dog “Mini”. Bill was born March 19, 1927, in Binghamton, NY. He graduated from Binghamton Central High School, and served in the United States Navy during W.W.II in the Pacific Theater. After completing his service, he graduated from Harpur College, and began working at General Electric in finance and accounting, until his retirement. Bill then worked for many years as a volunteer at Lourdes Hospital. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal. Bill will always be remembered for his keen sense of humor, his colorful stories, and his compassion for those less fortunate. He will be missed. A special thanks to the staff at Oxford Veterans Nursing Home for their tender care and attention.
At Bill’s request, there will be no calling hours. A private burial service will be handled at a later date. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Humane Society, Jackson Street, Binghamton, NY 13903. “Thanks, Dad…”
