Jacob James Dobransky, 23, passed away at his home on Friday, September 4, 2015. Jacob (“Jake”), was born July 9, 1992 in Titusville, FL to the late William Dobransky of Vestal, NY, and Tammy West of Cincinnati, OH. Jake had lived with his paternal aunt and uncle, Ann and William Pralat of Endicott, NY, since relocating from Ohio in 2012. Before then, Jake had graduated from Goshen High School in 2010, and attended Kent State University. Jake had matriculated at SUNY Broome Community College after his move to New York. Jake was passionate about great music. If you were to ever sit and chat with him, he’d recommend Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, Queen, Bob Dylan, Modest Mouse, Radiohead, and his favorite, Dave Matthews. He enjoyed other bands, of course, because music was something he felt with his soul. So he’d never tell you to pick just one genre, rather to listen to it all and go from there. Jake’s taste in music also informed his own creative outlook. He and friends wrote songs and played in bands throughout the years. Jake would play guitar and bass for the people he loved, though he bore his talent with modesty, shying away from praise. He had a dry sense of humor just like his Dad, and a quick wit matching that of Matt Stone and Trey Parker. We grieve the loss of his music, his presence, and his love. Jake was preceded in death by his father, William Dobransky of Vestal, NY; paternal grandmother, Ann Dobransky of Vestal, NY; and maternal grandfather, Ron West of Man, WV.
Jake is survived by his mother, Tammy West of Cincinnati, OH; his two sisters, Sharee Allen of Los Angeles, CA, and Leila Dixon of Cincinnati, OH; his brother, James Donovan Dailey of Cincinnati, OH; paternal grandfather, Joseph Dobransky of Vestal, NY; maternal grandmother, Donna Politakis of Bluefield, VA; three paternal aunts and their spouses, Mary Dobransky and Dr. Mark Wierman of Omaha, NE, Ann and William Pralat of Endicott, NY, Suzanne and Robert Vicks of Apalachin, NY; one paternal uncle, Joseph Dobransky of Venetia, PA; three paternal cousins with whom he spent much of his childhood, Michael Simpson of Twentynine Palms, CA, Shannon Dobransky of Vestal, NY, and Katie Pralat of Endicott, NY; and many loved maternal aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Friday 10 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, with Pastor Dan Eddings of the Church of the Nazarene officiating. Following the services, Jake will be laid to rest next to his father at Calvary Cemetery located in Johnson City, New York. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Thursday evening from 5-7 pm. “Castles made of sand, melt into the sea, eventually.”
