On Tuesday, October 5, Jackie went to be with her Lord surrounded by her family at the Ideal Living Center. She was predeceased by her parents, Mahlon, Dorothy and Wilma Pickering, her grandparents, Raymond and Blanche Pickering and her Aunt and Uncle Jack and Marjorie Smith. She is survived by her loving husband, Jack. The two would have celebrated their 73 Wedding Anniversary on October 10th. She is also survived by her three children, Cindy (Bill) Starring, Suzanne (Steve) Gorney and Robb Pitkin, her six grandchildren, Bill Starring, Paige (Paul) Karaz, Brad (Melanie) Starring, Jason and Nikki Smith, and Ross Pitkin, as well as her four great grandchildren, Zachary Smith, Rowan Clark, and Dakota and Dylan Starring.
Jackie lived for her family and her church, and was deeply devoted to both, always there to lend a helping hand and always available with loving support. She was an accomplished pianist and played faithfully at the First Baptist Church of Endicott for over 50 years, filling the church, and our home, with the most inspiring and lovely music. She also wallpapered, painted, helped cook for hundreds, and baked for family and friends. She was quick to laugh, she gave the best backrubs, and she always had fresh cookies when she knew her boys were coming. You always felt loved in her presence. Her smile and warm heart will be dearly missed.
Jackie delivered her children at Ideal Hospital and spent her last days there at Ideal Living Center. There she rediscovered the great love she and Jack had known those many years and just lived to see Jack walk in the door. She quickly made new friends and did her best to make everyone feel at home. Our thanks to her friend Beverly for sitting and holding her hand when we were not there, and our special thanks to the staff on Rose Court: to Carly, Kathy and Kelly, you showed her love, care and friendship and made her last days very special.
Arrangements have been made by Allen Memorial Home in Endicott. Jackie’s funeral will be held on Monday, October 11th at 12:00. Calling hours will be at 10:30, prior to the funeral. All will be held at the First Baptist Church of Endicott, 1406 Monroe Street. Burial will be at Riverhurst Cemetery in the family plot. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jackie’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Endicott or the Ideal Living Center.
