James “Jim” M. Ergler, 81 Friendsville, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2023.
He was born on June 16, 1942 to Herbert and Eleanor (Myers) Ergler in Altoona, PA.
On July 4, 1970 he married Norma T. (Guilfoyle) Ergler in Endicott, NY.
Jim studied engineering at Penn State and from 1962 to 2001 was employed by IBM as a model maker. While at IBM he earned his private pilot license and enjoyed flying.
In addition to being an avid hunter, outdoorsman and snowmobiler, Jim enjoyed building, fine tuning (aka “tinkering” per Norma) and driving his replica Shelby Cobra.
Jim was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 17 Cottage Street, Friendsville, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carrie (Mike) Waksmunski.
In addition to his loving wife he survived by his two children: Wendy Ergler of Centreville, VA and Michael (Jennifer) Ergler of Paupack, PA; siblings: Mary Ann (Bob) Larson of Altoona, Susie (Tony) Koehle, Rose “Posey” (Rod) Baronner, Tom (Jeanie) Ergler and Kathy (Larry) Knott, all of Altoona, Fran (Gary) Atkins of South Carolina, and Chris (Dave) McConnell and Dan (Beth) Ergler, both of Altoona; numerous nieces and nephews; and lots of good friends.
A Funeral Mass be held Tuesday, January 2 at 11 am at St. Francis Xavier Church, 17 Cottage Street, Friendsville, PA. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at church from 10 am until Mass time at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
