James “Jim” Hill

James C. Hill, age 90, of Vestal, NY entered eternal rest on December 28, 2023. Jim was the beloved husband of his late wife Kathleen (Myers). They had many happy years together. He is also predeceased by his parents Harry Hill and Gladys (Billard).
Jim is survived by his three children: Mary Takahata (Dean), James Hill and Timothy Hill (Karen). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kimberly Takahata (John Bernier), Shannon Takahata, Jason Hill and Adam Hill. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Richard Hill (Patricia) and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was born in Hawley, PA and graduated from Hawley High School where he was a three-sport athlete. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army where he worked as a regiment hall cook and played regimental baseball. Jim had a lifelong commitment to sports playing semi-professional baseball as a catcher and was a perennial selection to the All-Star Team. He was inducted into the Wayne Area Sports Hall of Fame. He went on to coach Little League. He also loved spending time on the golf course.
He retired from IBM after 31 years. In his later years, he enjoyed spending winters in Florida with Mary Fleming.
Jim was a long-time member of Our Lady Of Sorrows Church, Vestal and was a Member of the Knights of Columbus.
Family was extremely important to him and Jim was devoted to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time in the company of others telling stories, playing cards or sharing a meal. He will be remembered for his enjoyment of life.
A Funeral Mass for Jim will be held on Thursday at 11 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY. The family will receive friends at church on Thursday from 10 am until Mass time at 11 am.
