James R Howe, 74, of Endicott, NY passed away at Wilson Memorial Hospital on 12/15/23 after a long illness. He is survived by his sister and brother in law, Janis (Howe) and Thomas Hester, nephews Ryan (Tracy) Hester, Kevin (Michelle) Hester, grand nieces, Morgan and Avery and grand nephew, Owen Hester and cousin, Dave (Cetta) Howe. Jim served with the USAF in Hawaii after high school. After the Air Force he was a counselor at the Pennsylvania School for the deaf before returning to Endicott to complete his Bachelor’s degree at SUNY Binghamton. Jim retired from the Press and Sun Bulletin where he was a sports copy editor and wrote the bowling column. After retiring, Jim was employed by the Tioga Courier as a sports editor. He also volunteered with the American Red Cross on local disaster calls. Family time was important to Jim and he was very generous towards us as we were his only family. Our last family gathering was Thanksgiving which he was determined to attend. We were grateful to have that special day with him. We are also grateful to the staff at Wilson Hospital for their care and the staff at Susquehanna Nursing Center for their care as well.
Funeral Services will be held 11 am Saturday, December 23rd at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. Entombment will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott, at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, Friday the 22nd from 4-6 pm, and Saturday from 10 am until service time at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the American Red Cross or the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad.
