James Francis Kane, husband, brother, uncle and dear friend died peacefully on January 27, 2017 at the age of 83. Jim was born May 17th, 1933 of the late Maxwell and Elizabeth (McHugh) Kane. He grew up on Binghamton’s southside and graduated from Binghamton Central High School. Jim worked for Marine Midland Bank and retired from HSBC Bank. Jim was preceded in death by his first wife Joan (Felo) Kane in 1959, second wife of 50 years, Arlene (Shelton) Kane in 2011 and brother-in-law Anthony Riley in 2012. He is survived by his sisters Anne (Kane) Riley and Mary (Kane) Herrick and husband Jack; nieces whom he loved and cherished deeply, Barb Ritch (Greg), Beth Herrick, Lynn Magoulas, Patty Herrick and Cathy Anstrom (Marc); great nieces and nephews whom brought Jim great joy, Chris Herrick (fiancé Alison Walshe), Alyssa Polosky, Dan Ritch (Kate), Kailey Ritch, Grace Polosky, Tori Agnew, Tim Ritch, Allison Magoulas, Zane Agnew, Nick Magoulas, Ellie Anstrom and Max Anstrom; two great-great nieces whose smiles lit up Jim’s face, Ella and Aubree Ritch; and cousins Jimmie and Marie Gualtieri. Jim was very fortunate in having dear friends throughout his life. They included Joe Polosky, Debbie Roma and everyone in the Apalachin Lions Club where Jim was a lifetime member. Jim remained especially close with Arlene’s family, Anne Shelton, Margaret Mary (Shelton) Wohlrab, Mary Brosnan and her family. and cherished their friendship over the years. And to all of Jim’s friends at Cortese Restaurant, each one of you were very special to him. He noticed every kind gesture from having his wine ready for him before he even sat down, to those heaping plates of mussels and extra helpings of squash. You all brought great joy to his life and his family will be forever grateful.Jim’s family would like to thank the kind staff in the ICU and on Memorial 3 at Binghamton General Hospital. Jim enjoyed the company of each of you. Your kind words and gentleness never went unnoticed.
Finally, to our dear friends at Mercy House of the Southern Tier, words cannot express our gratitude for treating Jim with the dignity and respect he so deserved. Your kindness and loving care kept joy, peace and faith in every moment of his final days. Thank you all!
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4th 2017 at 9:30 a.m. from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.
