James (Jim) Keaty, 81, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 in Newport News, VA. Until recently, James was a long time resident of both Endwell, NY and Leesburg, FL. He was born in 1935 in Ransomville, NY, one of 12 children born to John and Rose Keaty. He graduated from Wilson High School and proudly served in the National Guard and Air Force-both in active service and reserves. He worked for and was a retiree of the NYSEG Corporation-employed first as a Lineman and finally as the Electrical Construction Manager. Jim was an avid golfer who enjoyed volunteering for many years at the B.C. Open. He was involved in many charitable organizations and was a member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles, TheLoyal Order of Moose, theBenevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Rotary Clubof Endwell, and The Knights of Columbus. He was also very involved in activities at his parish, The Church of The Holy Family (formerly Our Lady of Angels)-especially the yearly bazaar where he nimbly climbed ladders, hung lights and ran electrical wires for over 30 years. He continuously amazed his family with ability to fix anything-or find a unique solution to any problem! He was the kind of son, son-in-law, husband, father, brother, neighbor and friend that all wish to know. As a boss, “King James” was both feared and revered. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Jo, and a son, Scott and he mourned the loss every day. His faith and love for God sustained him. He was also predeceased by his parents, his sisters, Maureen and Kathleen, and his brothers, Jack, Maurice, and Gerald. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Shirley Romeo, daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Jon Vallet, daughter-in-law, Andrea Keaty, and his grandchildren, Chris and Mike Keaty and Emma, Harry, and Sam Vallet. He was most fortunate to also have a nephew, John Keaty, whose love and devotion was cherished. Also surviving are his sisters, Betty Ann, Rose, Eileen, Patricia, and brothers, Thomas, and Timothy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His last days were made easier by the prayers and support of many friends and family members-especially that of his brother, Tim, and sister-in-law and extraordinary nurse, Ruth. The family will receive friends at Allen Memorial Home from 5:00-7:00 pm on Friday, August 19, 2016. A Funeral Mass will be held at The Church of The Holy Family in Endwell, NY at 10:00 am on August 20, 2016. Rite of Committal will follow immediately at Riverhurst Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either TheAmerican Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association.
