James L. Wortman, (Whitey), 81, of Endwell entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 13, 2014. He was predeceased by his parents Willard and Catherine Wortman and his brother Paul Wortman. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Dolores M. Wortman, Endwell; his children, Linda and Jim Cerra, Apalachin, Carol Wortman, Alexandria, VA, David Wortman, Wellington, FL, and Brian Wortman, Endicott; two grandchildren, Dustina Wortman and Jenna Wortman; sister-in-law Ann Wortman; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his favorite pet Maggie. He was a member of Church of The Holy Family, Endwell. Jim was past Parish Council president of Christ The King Church and a member of its Nocturnal Adoration and Legion of Mary Societies. He was a retired electrical engineer with IBM Corp. retiring after 32 years of service. He was a graduate of Youngstown State and Syracuse University. He was a founding volunteer of the original fish fry dinners at Christ the King Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Jim was an avid bike rider and gardener and his children’s number one fan. A special thanks to all of his caregivers, especially longtime family friend Delores Sinchak, and to Dr. Yalamanchili at Broome Oncology for her continued support.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:15 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511- 513 East Main Street, Endicott followed by a Funeral Mass at Church of The Holy Family at 10 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Thursday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Whitey’s memory may be made to Mercy House, c/o Church of The Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell, NY 13760.
