Jane Carol Voce Townsend, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Vestal Park Nursing Center in Vestal, NY. Jane was born in Utica, NY on June 21, 1942, to Francis and Elizabeth Voce and was residing in the Austin, TX area until she recently returned to Endicott, NY.
After high school, she earned an RN from St. Elizabeth’s hospital in Utica, NY. Jane’s love for nursing and academia continued as she subsequently earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree. In 1968, Jane married Robert Bevins and they began their family with four children. She was predeceased by Robert in August 1976. In July 1984, Jane united in marriage to John “Jack” Townsend of Endicott, NY and they blended their beautiful families; Jane’s four children and Jack’s six children. Jane and Jack were devoted to each other and were married 39 years. Jane retired from IBM after 25+ years as a Corporate Nurse and Medical Department Leader in New York, Texas, North Carolina, and California. She continued her nursing career after IBM and retired at age 76.
Jane loved her family fiercely, and she used her talents to serve others. Her home was always open to friends or family, and she served her community by volunteering at the food pantry for the homeless and volunteering countless hours at St. Williams Catholic Church in Round Rock, TX while sharing her love for Jesus. Before retirement, Jane received the St. David’s Healthcare Humanitarian award for her passion and commitment to serving others. She loved hosting her large family for wonderful holiday gatherings. She loved travel and Westies!
Jane is survived by her husband Jack Townsend; sister Maureen Voce Prumo (Jonny); children Anne Marie McGuiness (Michael), Casey Bevins (Leanne), Jennifer Bevins (Adam), Michael Bevins (Lisa); stepchildren John Townsend (Patty), Pat Townsend (Beth), Karen Matolka (Rich), Mary Beth Townsend (Mark), Colleen Hayes (Travis), and Kathy Blake (Kevin) as well as 21 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Lovingly known as “Mia”, Jane’s grandchildren include Shelby Dubinovskiy (Greg), Logan McGuiness, Zachary McGuiness, Elizabeth McGuiness, Reilly Van Zandt, Kaylee Bevins, Addison Bevins, Kennedy Bevins, and Pepper Bevins.
In addition to Robert Bevins, Jane was predeceased by 10 siblings.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am, Friday, December 1st at Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends at church Friday the 1st from 9:30 am until Mass time at 11 am.
