Jean Jackson

Jean Power Jackson, of Endicott, NY passed away at Good Shepherd Village on Saturday morning October 21, 2017 from natural causes. Jean is survived by her sister Nancy Power Griffin and her children Linda Jackson Battaglini, Christine Jackson George, Richard Jackson and his wife Cynthia, Frederick Jackson and his wife Carol, and Elaine Jackson Hoffer. “Grammy” is also survived by her grandchildren Cara Battaglini Schatz and her husband Joel, Adam Battaglini, Brian George, Peter George and his wife Kristen, Robert and William Wescott, James Jackson and his partner Diana Peden, and Caroline Jackson, Jessica Stiff and her husband Shannon, Catella Visser and her partner Hugean Greer, David Jackson, Erin Hoffer, Cory Hoffer and his partner Q Morra, Sarah Hoffer Connors and her husband Patrick; and great grandchildren Cian and Cordelia Stiff, Azarea Visser, and Hugean and Abigail Greer. She is predeceased by her husband of 57 years James Richard Jackson, her daughter Jean Jackson and her son David Jackson, as well as her son-in-law Phillip George, her brothers Frank and Herbert Power, her sister Barbara Power, and her lifelong friends Marie Martin and Eileen Maney White. Jean was born and raised in Boston’s Mission Hill. She attended Boston College at night while working full time. She raised her children in Lynn and Peabody, Mass. before moving to Endicott, which was her home for 53 years. She was an active volunteer in Boston and in Endicott and took on leadership roles in many organizations and boards. After raising her children she began work in the insurance field and became one of the first individuals in the Binghamton area to be credentialed as a Certified Financial Planner. She continued in that profession building a very successful practice at E.F. Hutton, and eventually became a Vice President with Salomon Smith Barney. She retired in 2009. Jean advised her clients as if they were members of her own family. Jean was the matriarch of a large and close family and had many close friendships, particularly with Marie and Joseph Bates, her next door neighbors in Endicott for more than 45 years. She and Dick traveled extensively through the years and she led her immediate family in planning vacations, holidays and many celebrations. The happiness and success of her family was one of her proudest accomplishments. The Jacksons vacationed in many places but thought of the beach community of Nahant, Mass. as the place where the family gathered and grew together. Jean went there as a child as did her husband Dick and she made sure the family could continue the tradition, especially the famous Fourth of July celebrations. The family would like to extend many thanks and appreciation to the staff of Good Shepherd Village Skilled Nursing Unit and Assisted Living Unit for all the affection and care she received over the last year.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday 10 am at Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott Tuesday from 4-7 pm.
