Jean McGivney Rider, 87, went to be with the Lord on July 10, 2017 after a two year battle with uterine cancer. Predeceased by her brother Don, his wife Clare and their daughter Couleen. She is survived by her husband Vincent W. Rider, three sons and two daughters, Robert Michael, Jan, Thomas, Daniel and Mary, as well as eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Robert, his wife Ginny and six nephews and nieces. She was brought up by her aunt and uncle in Berlin, New Hampshire. After High School she went to Washington, DC and worked at the Pentagon during the Korean conflict. It was there that she met a US army inductee, Vince, her husband of 63 years. After several moves around the New York state and Pennsylvania, Jean and Vince moved to Endwell in 1980. Here they are members of the Church of the Holy Family. Jean spent several years, during the 1980’s and 90’s as a volunteer with Lourdes Home Care Program (Hospice). She particularly enjoyed creating and distributing Holiday baskets to Hospice patients. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the wonderful staff at Lourdes Hospice and Mercy House of the Southern Tier.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of the Holy Family, Phyllis Sreet, Endwell, at 10 am Thursday, July 13th. Burial will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery, Marilla, NY Friday at 1 pm. Friends will be received at Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main Sreet., Endicott from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, July 12th. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Mercy House, 212 North McKinley Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.
