Jeanne Ellen Mellander

November 2, 1929 — April 21, 2025

Jeanne W. Mellander, 95, of Johnson City, NY, formerly of Warren, PA, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025 at Elizabeth Church Manor.
Born in Warren, PA in 1929 to Glen and Mildred Bryan Way, Jeanne spent most of her life in the Warren area. She graduated from Warren High School in 1947 and Bryant Stratton College in 1949. That same year, she married her high school sweetheart, Elmer Mellander, with whom she shared a loving marriage until his passing in 2007. In 2009, Jeanne relocated to Johnson City, NY to be closer to family.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and her beloved husband, Elmer. She is survived by her children: Timothy (Rebecca) Mellander of Endicott, NY; Linda (Allen) Halladay of Carlisle, OH; Karen (David) Zolet of Columbia, MD; and Beth (Joseph) Naretto of North Huntington, PA.
She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Micah (Kelly) Mellander, Joshua (Lauren) Mellander, Benjamin (Jennifer) Halladay, Laura Halladay, Brett Halladay, Jacquelyn (Kyle) Rohrs, Joseph (Artemis) Naretto, Nicholas (Heather) Naretto, Anna (Nicholas) Hinkle, and Morry (Lindsey) Zolet. In addition, she leaves behind twelve cherished great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Jeanne had a fulfilling career as an administrative assistant, retiring from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Environmental Resources. A woman of strong Christian faith, she was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and Pleasant Community Church in Warren, and later the First Baptist Church of Endicott, NY. As a very active member, she served her churches in many capacities over the years.
She had a deep love for her family, particularly her great-grandchildren, and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Jeanne and Elmer shared a love for camping and travel, visiting nearly every state in the U.S., including Alaska, often pulling their trailer along the way. Some of her favorite memories were made camping close to home in the Allegheny National Forest, especially at Chapman Dam State Park.
An avid crafter, Jeanne enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, card stamping, and later in life, coloring and sharing her artwork with the staff at Elizabeth Church Manor, where she was known for her kindness and creativity.
Jeanne lived a good life and set a beautiful example for her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a faithful Christian woman whose legacy of love, strength, and grace will live on in all who knew her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff at Elizabeth Church Manor for their compassionate care over the past two years.
