Jean Milano, of Endicott died Tuesday, July 7, 2015. She was predeceased by her parents Nicholas and Anne Milano; brother, James Milano. She is survived by one sister Amy Zeller, Buffalo; two nephews Scott Zeller, Michael (Rebecca) Zeller; great nieces and nephews Hayden, Tally, Grace and Julia; many cousins. She was loved by countless friends. Jean was member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Endicott. She attended Charlotte Avenue Elementary School, Hamburg Junior High School where she was Salute Leader in 1958 and Hamburg High School from 1960-1964. Her musical activities included playing violin for all country music festivals, NYSSMA competition and Area All State Orchestra Concert Mistress of Hamburg High School Orchestra in 1964 and the String Quartet. She won the Homer Fiero Music Scholarship and the Erie County Music Educators Scholarship. Jean was Vice-President of the Senior Class of 1964 and the National Honor Society in 1963. She attended Fredonia College from 1964- 1968 and earned her B.S. in music education. She began her teaching career in the Union-Endicott School District in 1971 as a Vocal teacher until 1977 and then as String teacher in 1977 at the Elementary, Middle and High School Orchestras until retirement. She was awarded Outstanding Teacher Honors by Cornell University in 1990. While teaching the Union-Endicott High School Orchestra they won 1st prize at the Ocean City Maryland Festival of Music competition in 1984. They also won ‘A” in grade 5 at the New York State School Music Association competition in 1985. In 1997 she was given the 25 year service award by the Board of Education. She retired from the Union-Endicott School District in 2001 after 32 years of service. She was an avid country and line dancer. The family would like to thank Wilson Hospital Neuro Unit North Tower 2 and Willow Point Nursing home for the wonderful care given to Jean. Her family and friends will miss her greatly.
The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott Sunday from 2-4 pm. Funeral Services will be held Monday 10 am from the Allen Memorial Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 10:30 am. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna, NY at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
