Jerold W. Phelps,88, of Endicott, NY, passed away on March 9 at Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Jer was born and raised in the Endwell area to the late Nell & Frank Phelps. He is predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Phelps; brothers, Francis, Robert, John Paul Phelps; sister, Rita O’Brien; stepson, John Lewis and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Jer is survived by his stepchildren, Ron(Jan), Russ(Beth) and Steve Lewis; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; daughter, Julia Ann; several sisters-in-law; brother-in-law; as well as many nieces and nephews. Jer served in the Korean War in the US Air Force as an Upper Air Weather Specialist serving on the DEW Line off the North coast of Alaska. He is also a member of the Atomic Survivors Association for his service in Nevada at the Atomic testing site. After 23 years, Jer retired from IBM. Jer loved the game of golf, his “Gmen” and the NY Yankees. We would like to thank the staff at the Vestal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their exceptional care for the last 4 1/2 years.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday March 16 from 10-11 AM at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. Private Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Endicott. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jer’s memory to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, PO Box 204, Norwood, NJ 07648.
