Joan E. Palombo-Golden (74) of Endicott, NY, passed away at her home on May 26th, 2021. She was predeceased by her father, Mario Palombo (1995); mother, Ann Palombo (2008) and dear friend, Mary Ann Putrino (2006). Joan is survived by her husband, Raymond Golden; Brother, James Palombo; Sons, James and Michael Golden; Daughters-in-law, Diane and Ellis Golden; Close friends, Ann Marie VanOosetendorp, Rita Nigh, and Marie Croll; Godchildren, Monica Palombo-Bonczek, Colleen Smith and David Watts. Joan also had several cousins, great friends, in-laws, nieces and nephews with whom she remained close. Most important to her was the cherished role of “Grandma Joanie” to her treasures, Jack, Andrew, Alexandra and Isla.
Joan was a lifelong resident of Endicott, taking great pride in her North Side roots. She worked at IBM for 15 years before leaving to spend time with her two young children. When Joan returned to the work force, she did so with a focus on helping children. She worked at Tree Top Nursery School and eventually Woodrow Wilson Elementary School where she worked for 15 years before retiring in 2010. Joan was a devout Catholic, a parishioner first at St. Anthony of Padua church before joining Our Lady of Good Council. She never missed mass. In her retirement, Joan volunteered at Charles F. Johnson Elementary School for 10 years, helping Kindergarten students with reading. Joan also helped at OLGC’s Soup Kitchen, where she was still active in her role.
Joan was known for her commitment to family and friends, but her kindness extended to nearly everyone in her orbit. In times of celebration or in need, one could expect a card, plant or another thoughtful gesture. Joanie’s sauce was revered, and she so valued hosting dinners for loved ones. Joan Golden was selfless and good-hearted. She was loved and will be missed.
