John A. Ballock, 67, of Apalachin, NY passed away at Wilson Memorial hospital, Johnson City, on July 25, 2012. Born September 1, 1944, in Philipsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Wilkes Ballock. On September 6, 1964 he married Shirley A. Patrick, who survives. He is survived by a daughter, Stephanie A. Reese (John) of Charlotte, NC; a son, John P. Ballock (Traci) of Springfield, MA; and one granddaughter, Ericah S. Reese of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving is one sister, Karen Andell (Jonathan) of Phoenix, AZ. He was predeceased by one brother, William Ballock, and one sister, Shirley Ballock Nelson. John was a 1962 graduate of Philipsburg-Osceola High School and a 1966 graduate of Allegheny Technical Institute. John began employment in 1967 with IBM Corporation in Endicott, NY where he worked in the Field Engineering Division, retiring in 2001 with 34 years of service. Following his retirement from IBM, John decided he needed a little more to fill his days and began working as a teacher’s aide in the Vestal School District assisting students needing learning support. He retired from Vestal School District in 2011. Family meant everything to John and always came first. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was vacations, holiday gatherings, hunting and fishing trips, spending summer weekends on Lake Cayuga, or taking a Hawaiian cruise with his wife. Of particular delight to John was his granddaughter, Ericah, who warmed her “Papas” heart. A Memorial Service for John will be held on Saturday 1 pm at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main Street, Endicott, with Reverend Daniel Eddings officiating. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Saturday from 12 pm until service time at 1 pm. Expressions of sympathy in John’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
