John J. Contro, 75, of Endwell, passed away peacefully at home on October 19th, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born on December 23rd, 1948 as the oldest of five children to John and Mary Contro (Vicosky) of Binghamton, NY. He is now reunited with the love of his life, Diane Contro (Brazilla), who sadly passed away earlier this year. John is survived by his three sisters Teresa Contro, Patricia Costantino (Thomas), Marlene Living, his brother Thomas Contro (Kathy), his three daughters Lacey Carey (Chris), Kristin Isenberg
(Michael), Natalie Contro, and three beautiful grandchildren, Anthony, Christian, and Ava Isenberg.
John graduated from North High School in 1967 and attended Broome Tech College for 2 years.
He worked for his father’s plumbing and heating business from the age of 13, eventually inheriting it, and enjoyed many successful years in the commercial plumbing industry. As a Licensed Master Plumber, he was always there to help out family and friends in need. John was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed the outdoors. Even as his health declined, he remained a hard worker, spending much of his time splitting wood and delivering it to his loyal customers. He and his family spent many winters in Texas and eventually Naples, Florida, where many good times with new friends were had. John loved spending time with his grandchildren swimming in his pool as well as teaching them the art of fishing. In the final weeks of his life, he was diligently cared for at home by his daughters, surrounded by the sounds of his grandchildren giggling as they played with his beloved Australian Shepherds. On his final day, he was surrounded by his family and they were able to express their love to him as well as pray together. A man of strong faith, John was ready to be reunited with his wife and family that left before him.
John was thankful for the services he received from Guthrie Hospice, Meals on Wheels, and members of the Church of the Holy Family. Charitable donations can be made to the
Church of the Holy Family.
The family will receive friends and extended family at Church of the Holy Family on October 28th, 2024 from 10 am-11 am, followed by Mass and Christian burial immediately afterwards.
