John Joseph (Jack) Guittard, 89, went to his eternal resting place on February 2, 2020. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Shirley L. (Edsell) Guittard in 2019. Jack is survived by his two sons, Mark Patrick, Windermere, FL, and John Gerald (Rose), St. Cloud, FL; four grandsons, Andrew David (Vanessa), Sanford, NC, Eric Richard, Rochester, NY, Gregory Joseph, Princeton, IN, Matthew Patrick (Jennifer), Maitland, FL; two great granddaughters, Elizabeth Anna and Isabella Grace . Jack was predeceased by his parents, Harold R. Guittard and Julia V. Guittard of Miami, Florida and Detroit, Michigan. Jack was born in Detroit, Michigan March 19, 1930. He graduated from St. Mary of Redford High (Class of ’48) and attended the University of Detroit. He attained the rank of Eagle W/2 Palms, and served as an Assistant Scoutmaster of Scout Troop 111 from 1948 through October 1950, at which time he enlisted in the U.S Navy and served on-board the USS Piedmont (AD17) until 1954. He was honorably discharged in August 1954 as an ET2 Petty officer. Jack was employed by the IBM Corporation on February 14, 1955 in Miami, FL. He received CE training at Endicott, NY where he met and courted Shirley. They were married on November 8, 1955 in Miami, and lived in Savannah, GA from 1955 to 1963, during which time Mark and Jerry were born. They returned to the Endicott area in 1963, and took up residence at their current home in Endwell in 1964. Jack retired from IBM in 1991 as a Senior Service Planning Rep, after thirty-six years of continuous service. Jack was also an Honorary Lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Endicott Council #1839, and a 2010 member of the American Legion. Jack was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He tried to be a friend to and with all who knew him.
The family will receive friends Monday February 10 from 4-6 pm at the Allen Memorial Home. At Jack’s request there will be no Services. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
