John Ligi

John S. Ligi, 87 of Delray Beach, FL. formerly of Endwell. Passed away July 2, 2014 at Delray Beach Hospital after a brief illness. Born on September 22, 1926 in Endicott to Fabio and Sarah (Latini) Ligi. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Diva (Pezzuti) Ligi. He is survived by his three children; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Betty Ligi, Delray Beach, FL; a daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Glen Hollenbeck, North Lauderdale, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and BarbaraJean Ligi, Endwell; three grandchildren; Curtis Ligi, Utica, NY; Ryan and Janelle Ligi of Endwell; a cousin, Evelyn Bianco; along with many nieces and nephews. He was a US army veteran of WW II serving in the occupation of Italy as a language translator. He retired from IBM after 38 years of service in both Endicott and Boca Raton, FL. John also owned and operated several small businesses in the Endicott area for many years, always working hard to give his family a better life, and to instill a strong work ethic in them. He was a gentle man with a great sense of humor. He especially enjoyed gathering with family and friends sharing good food (no broccoli) with jokes and a smile, and could often be seen laughing till he cried. He enjoyed traveling abroad, back to Italy, and to his favorite location, Saas-Fee, Switzerland. John was an avid photographer, often spending hours at the wildlife refuge. He was also a self-proclaimed connoisseur of ice cream and gelato.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday July 12th, at 12:00 PM at Allen Memorial Funeral Home 511 Main St. Endicott, NY. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of service. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
