John J. Whalen

John (Jack) Whalen, 94 of Vestal passed away on January 2, 2025 at Mercy House of the Southern Tier. He was predeceased by his parents John and Bertha Whalen, his sisters: Sister Annunciata CSJ, Eleanor (John) Connolly and Veronica (Leo) Dugan, and a son in law Joseph Roma. He is survived by his loving wife Helen of 69 years, children Daniel (Ivanka), David (Jackye) MaryJane (Craig), grandchildren: Sean, Dave, Kelly, Joe, Caitlyn, Sidnye, and Kendyl, great grandchildren Sutton, Cole, Althea, Whalen, and his sister-in-law Patricia Miller, also several nieces and nephews John graduated from Sienna College and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the Destroyer USS Robert H. McCard. He retired from IBM Owego, worked part time at Gault Chevrolet driving cars for 12 years, was past president of Endicott AARP, volunteered at Lourdes Hospital, Catholic Charities Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels of Western Broome County, drove for the American Cancer Society. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, a 3rd Degree member of the Vestal Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree member of the Endicott Assembly of the Knights of Columbus. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church Vestal NY at 10:30 AM. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 9:30-10:30. Burial will be private at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 N. McKinley Avenue Endicott NY 13760
