Joseph “Ed” Barr

Joseph “Ed” Barr, 81, of Endwell, died at Good Shepherd Village, Endwell, NY, Saturday, December 12, 2015. He was predeceased by his mother, Marian Henderson Craig; and his father, Joseph Edward Barr. He was predeceased by his infant brother James Alexander Barr. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 45 years, Joan Flynn Barr, Endwell. He is survived by his children, Cynthia and Stephen Milkovich, Hopewell Junction, NY, Dr. James and Dineen Barr, Flemington, N.J., Dr. Carol Barr and partner Dr. Janet Fink, South Hadley, Mass., David and Lynn Barr, Apalachin, Donald and Dominique Barr, South Bend, Indiana, Christopher and Eileen Barr, Apalachin, Joanie and Dave Pokorak, Binghamton, Joseph and Frances Barr, Lexington, SC; 19 grandchildren, Michelle and Patrick Milkovich, Marisa & Dr Mike Kane, Marylynn, Kathleen and Stephen Barr, Kyle and Corey Barr, Avery, Samuel, Anna and Molly Barr, Benjamin, Max and Riley Barr, Lydia and Leo Pokorak, Sarah and Nicholas Barr; loving companion Clare Stephens, and many special friends. He was a member of Our Lady of Angels Church, Endwell; mechanical engineering graduate from Syracuse University and retired after 35 years with IBM. Ed, affectionately called “Bampa” by his many grandchildren, was a respected hard working, mild mannered gentleman who enjoyed his large family, golf, fishing, Syracuse basketball, reading, skiing, summers at the lake house in Canada and winters in Florida. We will always remember his sound wisdom, guiding advice and unconditional love for us all.

Funeral services will be held Friday 9:15 am from the Allen Memorial Home 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at church of the Holy Family at 10 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, Thursday, from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Ed’s memory may be made to The Joan E. Barr Memorial Scholarship (checks can be made out to University of Massachusetts, and mailed to Kristine Elison, Isenberg Development Office 101 University Drive, Suite B4, Amherst, MA 01002 with notation in the memo line “In Ed Barr’s memory to the Joan E. Barr Memorial Scholarship”).
