Joseph Bevelacqua

d. March 29, 2024

It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow that we confirm that our beloved father, Joseph D. Bevelacqua (Joe), went to be with the lord after a brief illness on Friday March 29, 2024, age 88. Joe was born in Endicott NY, the son of the late Epifanio and Rose Bevelacqua. He was the oldest of 2 sons and is survived by his brother Jerry who he loved immensely. On May 1, 1954, he married JoAnn (Ellliot) and was married for 62 years until her passing in 2016. He was also preceded in death by his son Edward, his daughter Marie, his granddaughter Erin, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Lee & Pauline Freace and sister-in-law Donna Bevelacqua. Joseph is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his children, Dominick (Tracie) and Karen (Tim), his grandchildren, Crystal (Dan), Nicole (Tim), Joe (Kelley), Christian (Beth), Amber (Ben) and Josh (Cierra). He will also be fondly remembered by his greatgrandchildren Ayden, Luca, Chloe, Konnor, Danielle, Alexander, Kinsley, Sloan, Haley, Lillian, Sirayna and Benjamin who meant the world to him and he loved very much. He also leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law Lee (JoAnn) Freace, Nephews and nieces Kevin (Brenda), Keith (Liz), Denise (Craig), Patricia (Tom) and Michael (Claire) as well as his great nephews and nieces, cousins and special friends. Above all, Joe was dedicated to his family and proud and grateful for their love. Joe graduated from Union-Endicott HS and went onto work at Canada Dry, Endicott Johnson Corp, Endicott Water Dept. and eventually retired from IBM. He was a hard worker and at times worked 3 jobs to support his family. After retirement he continued to work part time as a driver for Endicott Florist until finally taking a rest at the age of 79. Joe enjoyed bowling for many years, he participated in several leagues and met many special friends. He was a corvette enthusiast and bought his last one at age 87. He remained a faithful Christian for his entire life and was a member of the Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. In his younger years he helped with his wife’s encouragement at the OLGC Soup Kitchen and special events. He had a great heart and believed in helping others. Joe was a quiet soul, strong and very independent not wanting to impose on anyone. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed kidding around with everyone he met. He was very proud of his heritage and made sure everyone knew he was Sicilian. Joe enjoyed his special dinner outing with his cousins Gary (Connie), David, Patty (Dave) as well as his Wednesday morning breakfast club with special friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Ideal Rehab Center for the tender care and compassion they provided to our father the final weeks of his life. We know that God is pleased to have one of his kind and generous angels back in his arms, where he belongs. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, April 4th at 10 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 701 West Main Street, Endicott. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Vestal.
