Joseph John Marion, 79, went to our Lord, Monday, October 13, 2014. Born in Archbald, PA December 21, 1937, he is predeceased by his parents Ambrose and Mary (nee Simon). While stationed overseas he met and married Rosaleen Eithné Rafter in Dublin, Ireland, 1957. Brother to Francis, Jack, Ambrose, Harold, Anna, Alice, and Rosemary. Father to Joseph (Susan), Brian, Rosaleen (Emilia), Maureen Stroka (David), Kathleen Kobylak (William). Grandfather to Hannah, Sean, Lynn, Kelly, Ebony, Noah, Henry, Caitlin Rose, and Anna. Great-Grandfather to Kylie Rose, Andrea and Marzia. Joseph was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He retired from IBM where he was a Manager for many years. He was a dedicated long-time member of the Holy Names Society at Church of the Holy Family in Endwell, NY. A lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, he competed on the IBM pistol team and in the NYS Empire games. He was also a member of the IBM bowling league. For most of his life he enjoyed long distance running and participated in many local running events. An active volunteer after retirement, he gave time to Literacy Volunteers and was a coordinator of the Broome County AARP Tax Program. Joseph loved the outdoors, fishing and camping, and he hiked many many woodland miles. In his children he instilled a deep appreciation of nature. He loved to read about history-especially the history of W.W.II. A man of devotion, discipline, and humor, he was deeply loved and will be deeply missed. The Family would like to thank the gentle care given by the staff of the STAR unit at Hilltop nursing home. Their attention was a godsend to our loved one living with Alzheimer’s.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday 9:30 am from the Allen Memorial Home 511-513 East Main Street Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at Church of the Holy Family at 10 am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Friday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
