Joseph L. Watson Jr., 61, of Endicott passed away unexpectedly on May 6th 2024.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Carolyn (Marx) Watson and two sons Peter (Melissa) and Benjamin (Meghan); his mother, Margaret Watson; grandchildren Riley, Madelyn and Owen; brothers David (Theresa) Watson, Christopher (Michelle) Watson; sister Jennifer (Nicholas) Weimer and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father Joseph L. Watson Sr. of Endicott.

Joe graduated from Owego Free Academy high school and later earned an Associate’s degree from Alfred State University.He then obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from RIT and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Binghamton University.While growing up he was a very active Boy Scout as part of Troop 32 of Apalachin where he became an Eagle Scout and joined the Order of the Arrow.

He enjoyed a long career of 40 years at BAE Systems where he progressed through various positions within the company.Most recently he served as a proud and highly respected engineering manager.Retirement was in his near future, but recently expressed how much he enjoyed his job.Since his passing, there have been an overwhelming number of gracious comments about Joe from his workplace, whether it was appreciation of a valuable lesson he shared, or just to share a laughing memory.

Joe was very caring and supportive in all parts of his life.Whether it was family, friend or coworker, he always offered a helping hand, provided guidance or lent a listening ear.His presence provided a calming sense of security to all.

He was an avid long distance runner and bicyclist.He was a very active Do-It-Yourselfer of just about everything, with automotive repair and house renovations being among his favorite pastimes.Most recently, he helped his sons work on their own homes and cars, providing all of the necessary lessons to carry those practices forward.He loved walking outdoors with his wife, especially taking trips to Ithaca.

He will be greatly missed by all.

The family will receive friends at Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, Sunday, May 12th from 2 to 5 PM.

A funeral mass will be held Monday, May 13th at 10 AM at Our Lady of Good Council Church, 701 West Main Street, Endicott. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Fairview Street, Johnson City.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Mom’s House or the American Heart Association.
