Judith K. Shannon, 78, of Endwell, NY, passed away at Mercy House August 29th after a 10 month battle with brain cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, John & Margaret Shannon. She is survived by her three children; daughter, Lisa Hornyak; son, Doug Hornyak, grandson Nicolas and granddaughter Rose Hornyak; daughter Amie Terry-Bimmler, son-in-law, Greg Bimmler, grandsons Dillan and Spencer Terry; brother John Shannon, nephews Kyle and John and nieces Tracy and Erin.
Judy was a long time member of St Paul’s parish and at one time, their church Secretary. She retired from Social Services in Tioga County where she was a caseworker. She volunteered for various charities over the years, from answering phones for domestic violence victims, to suicide prevention. She volunteered for the Broome County Council of Churches with Faith in Action in her later years, driving others to their doctor appointments, picking up groceries, and other needs.
Judy loved music and sang in the church choir for many years along with singing in a guitar group, visiting Nursing homes and Senior Centers. She was a social butterfly and always showed compassion for others. Anyone who knew Judy would agree - she was a selfless and loving individual.
A special thank you to the staff at Riverview Manor in Owego for the loving care they provided and Mercy House in Endicott where she spent her last couple days.
The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott Friday evening from 5-7 pm. Funeral Services will be held Saturday 11 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 200 Jefferson Avenue, Endicott. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation to Mercy House, in memory of Judy.
