Judith A. York

February 9, 1942 — November 20, 2024

Judith A. (Backo) York, 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Vestal Park Nursing Center. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Roger York, son Michael York, sister Stephanie Nelson and parents Joseph and Caroline Backo.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Gavin Knickerbocker. She was a proud and loving “Nana” to her granddaughters Kara and Katrina Knickerbocker. She is also survived by her niece Jessica & Jason Flynn (Aidan), brother-in-law Donald Nelson, and family member Sue Albanese.
Judy was a member of St. James Church where she served in many capacities throughout the years: parish council, turkey party, Over 50 Club and funeral lunches. She worked for the Johnson City School District as a bus driver for many years. Judy enjoyed baking for her family around the holidays and displaying her large collection of Christmas & Holiday houses. She also loved to crochet, garden and spending time at Lake Timberline. She was proud of her Slovak heritage and was a past member of the Czechoslovakian Moravian Club.
We would like to thank the staff at Vestal Park Nursing for their loving care of Judy. Your love and compassion for Judy, especially the last week of her life, meant so much to the family. We hope remembering her “spicy” personality will bring a smile to your face.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am, Tuesday, November 26 at Saint James Church 147 Main Street, Johnson City. Burial will be in Slovak Catholic Cemetery, Binghamton. The family will receive friends at church Tuesday, November 26 from 9 am until Mass at 10 am.
