Kimi was predeceased by her parents, Kamezo and Moto Hoshiya, husband Carl Lavo, sisters, and brothers-in-law; Mary Lavo, Annie & Anthony Santacrose and Raymond & Dorothy Lavo.

Kimi was born in Tokyo, Japan on March 1, 1927. Shortly after the end of WW II, she met and married Carl Francis Lavo when he was stationed in Japan on active duty with the U.S. Armed Forces. During their many years in service and moving numerous times, Kimi took care of their family when Carl was deployed overseas for extended tours. Once settling in Endicott, Kimi raised her four children and become part of a tight-knit Japanese community centered at the Kampai Japanese Restaurant.
An accomplished cook, she delighted in sharing her Japanese-Italian fusion cuisine with family and friends. Kimi will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, love for her family and friends and an indelible spirit for laughter and fun.
The family is especially thankful to her extended family centered at Kampai Japanese Restaurant for their love and friendships. We would also like to thank her doctors: Dr. Mark Wilson and Dr. Sanjiv Patel for their care and help along with the staff at Lourdes Hospital and Lourdes Hospice Care for their kindness and service.
