Larry E. Verhoeven, 76, of Vestal, died peacefully on Thursday evening after an extended illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. Larry was predeceased by his mother, Ruth (Bascom) Verhoeven; his brothers, Neil, William, and Everett. He is survived by his adoring wife of 47 years, Carol (Jackowski) Verhoeven, his children, Jennifer and Stephen Potter, Keith Verhoeven, and two grandchildren, Katherine and Nicholas, all of Vestal. Larry was a Vietnam veteran, who served in the First Air Cavalry as a Medivac Communication Specialist. He was awarded the prestigious Air Medal for his bravery in flight. Larry worked for Universal Instruments for 30 years. He loved bowling, fishing, and camping. He will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 4:30 pm at Endwell United Methodist Church, 3301 Watson Boulevard, Endwell. The family will receive friends at church Thursday from 2:30 pm until service time at 4:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, gestures of sympathy, in Larry’s name, can be made to the Endwell United Methodist Church’s Rise Against Hunger Campaign. A graveside internment, with full military honors, will be held this spring.
