Lawrence “Larry” Rice

Lawrence Robert Rice (Larry), 79, of Maine, NY, died March 31, 2015 at Willow Point Nursing Home in Vestal, NY. His 80th birthday is on Monday, April 6th. He shared more than sixty wonderful years with his wife, Vivian (Gage) Rice. Their 60th Wedding Anniversary is on May 28th, 2015. She and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will cherish memories of their time with him. Larry enjoyed travel, music, and most of all, family gatherings. His community was important to him, and over the years he was involved in many areas, including the Navy Reserve for eight years; The Nanticoke Valley Historical Society; Boy Scouts; President of the M-E School Board; the Town of Maine Little League program, where he coached and served as president; The Horatio Alger Society, where he served as President; and the Maine Federated Church, where he was a life-long member. Larry is also survived by his children: Debra Goble and her husband, David, of Maine, NY; Robert Rice of West Corners, NY; Scott Rice and his wife, Linda, of New Port Richey, FL; and Christopher Rice and his wife, Holly, of Maine, NY. Their grandchildren are Jacob Goble and his wife, Lisa; Sarah Goble; Scott Paul and Emily Rice; and Gavin and Caleb Rice. Their three great-grandchildren are Klara, John, and Elijah.
Funeral Services be held Monday at 11:30 am from Maine Federated Church 2615 Main Street, Route 26, Maine, NY, with Reverend Robert Dean Pastor of his church officiating. Burial will be in Maine Cemetery. The family will receive friends at church Monday from 10 am until service time at 11:30 am. In Larry’s spirit of community and helping others, the family asks that memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to one of the following important causes: the Wide Horizons Nursery School Scholarship Fund at Maine Federated Church; The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism at P.O. Box 767 Framingham, MA 01701 or www.flutiefoundation.org; or The Horatio Alger Society Scholarship Fund, at 1004 School Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
