Lisa Cabral Mastroberti, 40, succumbed to her chronic mental illness on May 11th, 2021 after grappling with the disease for decades. She was predeceased by her grandparents, her Uncle Richard Edmondson, and three beloved house rabbits: Olive Parsley, her heart bunny Otto Cacao, and Oscar Fennel, the founding members of Team O. Lisa is survived by her beloved and devoted husband, Jesse Godell, Endicott; parents, David and Julia Mastroberti, Danby; sister, Lauren (Natalio) Gonzalez, Penn Yan; brother, Eric (Tiffany) Mastroberti, West Danby. Lisa is also survived by her niece Cat and nephew Luca, who she adored; along with Uncles, an Aunt, two cousins, Jesse’s family, and treasured friends including Zachary Gehm, Amanda and Fern Gilmore, and Tovah Means, with whom she was friends for over two decades. In 2010, on a whim, Lisa acquired her first house rabbit, Olive, and quickly found a deep love of and kinship with the largely exploited and disregarded creatures. It wasn’t long before Olive had a companion, Oscar. Not long after Olive’s passing Ophelia and Otto joined the team. Along with Artemis, Octavius, and Magpie in the following years. Numerous bunnies in need of transport and fostering have passed through Lisa’s care.
Lisa discovered her desire to promote social justice and support marginalized populations as a student at SUNY Binghamton studying Human Development. Her former professor and friend Dr. Ann Merriwether’s classes contributed to Lisa discovering this passion; and they also bonded over their love of all living beings, specifically rabbits.
Lisa was a licensed funeral director and was adept in her embalming work. She moved on from that career to working with individuals with disabilities at Racker Center, Achieve, and Southern Tier Independence Center where she was a Medicaid Service Coordinator (MSC) before finding her real stride as the Program Assistant to the department.
Lisa was working as a Care Coordination Program Assistant at Prime Care Coordination at the time of her death.
Lisa was an Educator for the National House Rabbit Society, worked as a poll inspector during the 2020 election because she knew the need would be greater due to the pandemic, and politics. #FeelTheBern
She enjoyed craft beer tourism and particularly enjoyed aggressively bitter West Coast style IPAs and sour beers.
Lisa is laying in the sunny grass with Otto again.
The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, Wednesday evening from 5-7 pm. A memorial service will be planned and announced in the future. Donations may made in her honor to the House Rabbit Society (rabbit.org).
