Louis Bernardini

January 27, 1920 — December 9, 2012

Louis Bernardini, 92, of Endicott, slipped quietly from this life into eternal life on Sunday, December 9, 2012. He was predeceased by his wife, Antoinette, his brothers Anthony and Peter, his sisters Beatrice Grifantini and Delfa Vivona, and his grandson David Bernardini. He is survived by his daughters Judy Heavey-Staeuble (Jerome), Lois O’Day (Jim), and Kathy Bernardini; sons Louis Bernardini (Kathy) and David Bernardini (Pat); grandchildren Therese (Sean Walsh), Heather Heavey, Aimee Heavey, John (Jenilee) Bernardini, Paul (Val) Bernardini, Sarah (Jake) Cummings, Beth Bernardini and Michael O’Day; great grandchildren Riley and Liam Walsh, Josiah and Elijah Bernardini, Gabriella, Isabella, Shay and Rocco Bernardini, and Kayla and Kira Cummings. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and his faithful companion, Sandy. He served in the U.S. Army at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii from 1938-1941. He was recalled to active duty in February 1942 and served until 1945 in Company H 143rd division. During that time he was awarded many medals including the American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. Upon discharge he attended the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, Ohio, and eventually opened his own market in Endicott, “Lou’s Market.” He and his wife worked together there many years. He was a long time member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. He moved to Nichol’s Notch in 2004 and to Hilltop in September 2012. Many thanks are extended to the staff of Care America, Hilltop Sun Unit and 1W, and Marie Morelli for their care and assistance. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday 11 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, West Main Street, Endicott. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at church Friday from 9 am until Mass time at 11 am. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the American Heart Association, P.O.
