Louis D’Angelo

Louis A. D’Angelo, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully into the misty, morning light on October 13,2015 embraced by his adoring family. “Grappy,” most often seen clad in bright orange, had a smile, wit, sense of humor, generosity and zest for life brighter than any shade of color he wore. It was manifested in his love for his high school sweetheart and beloved wife, Marilyn D’Angelo (Miesch) married 40 beautiful years; his two adoring sons, Christopher D’Angelo (of Binghamton, NY) and Daniel D’Angelo (of Denver, CO), his loving Daughter in Laws Aspen & Stacey D’Angelo, and his cherished grandchildren, Sydney (4), Jaxen (2) and newly born, baby Kaiden D’Angelo who felt the love of his grandfather, in his arms on his final days. Louie was born on January 17, 1951 as the only child to the late Daniel P. and Marjorie L. D’Angelo in Binghamton, NY. In his youth, Louie was a Boy Scout and received recognition for saving the life of a fellow scout from drowning. From that moment on, it is clear Louie didn’t take a moment of life for granted. He held a deep-rooted love of the nature and the community around him that touched each person he met. Full of knowledge and a love for history and facts, he lit up a room with his stories. Louie began his career with the D’Angelo family business, Triple Cities Construction, building roads and bridges throughout the greater Binghamton area. He went on to make a strong impact in construction working throughout the New York region. Louie always knew the best spot to grab a bite and talk with the locals in each small town he stopped in. Louie was a friend to everyone he met, willing to lend a hand, share a meal and swap a story. Louie was a foodie at heart and he truly enjoyed the amazing cooking of his wife Marilyn. Louie had a knack of finding the best spots for authentic Italian cuisine or places to find a great round of cheese, best cut of meat and bottle of wine. He was never one to skip dessert and made it a priority to share the taste of life with all that he loved. Louie loved trips to Sanibel and Captiva Island in Florida, fishing for fresh seafood for dinner, reading his favorite novels and walking the beach with the ones he cherished most. Louie loved to build and create. He built their family home in Binghamton and went on to complete Marilyn and Louie’s dream home, with his very own hands, just a few short years ago, a symbol of his love and life with his family with picturesque views of Cayuga lake, and the water and nature he held so dear. Louie enjoyed fishing and trips on his boat with his family and friends, planting and harvesting vegetables in his garden, caring for his two Westies, Jack and Riley, feeding the birds he could spot from far distances away, spending time with his beautiful grandchildren, and taking in the stunning views of the sunrises and sunsets each day from the porch and dock of his lake house with his loved ones by his side. Memorial Services will be held Saturday 11 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, wit the Reverend Father Corey VanKuren officiating. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Saturday from 9 am until service time at 11 am. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Louie’s memory may be made to the Our Lady of Sorrows Food Pantry, (for Thanksgiving dinners), 801 Main Street, Vestal, NY 13850.
