Louis “Duke” Marinello, 85, of Endicott, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016. He was predeceased by his parents Anthony and Angelina and his wife Mabel. He is survived by his loving companion of 29 years Evelyn Thorne; two daughters Beth (Roger) Neel, Endicott and Mary Lou (Steven) Krol, Cary, NC; grandchildren Angela (Michael Roberts) Anderson and Eric and Taylor Krol; Evelyn’s children Deb (Dave Fisher) Badera; Ross (Penny) Thorne; Scott (Larry Hubbard) Thorne; Pam (Chuck) Bidwell and Jennifer Barnett; Evelyn’s grandchildren Lauren Doane; James Warne; Derek; Greg and Josh Thorne; Tim and Steve Bidwell and Katey Barnett; a brother Ralph Marinello; several nieces and nephews; longtime friends Brian Andrulewich, John Matisi and many friends from the camp at Sandy Pond where he enjoyed his summers. He was a passionate outdoor sportsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting and truly lived his life to the fullest. He owned and operated The Duke’s Place for over 25 years, where so many came to know and love him. He was a member of Major Ray H. Humphrey, DSC, VFW Post 1449, Endicott and past commander of American Legion Post 1700, Endicott, as well as their “Last Man’s Club”. He was especially proud of the fact the character “The Duke” in the Wizard of ID comic strip by Johnny Hart was a take-off on him.
Funeral Services will be held Friday 12 pm from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. Entombment will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Friday from 9 am until service time at 12 pm. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association or the Boys and Girls Club of Western Broome.
