Margaret “Margie” Britton

Margaret “Margie” Helen (Slicklen) Britton passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on February 25, 2017 at the age of 84. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was loved dearly and will be missed by her family more than words can express. She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Monroe Slicklen, her loving husband, Robert, brothers John, Richard, and Kenneth, niece Sandy, and dear friends Rose Sullivan and Carol Bixby. She is survived by her brother Joseph of Bowling Green, KY, daughters Gini (Bill) James, Silver Spring, MD, Debbie Roane, Endicott, Suzie Lupo, Apalachin, Nancy (Dave) Como-Lesko, Virginia Beach, VA. Grandchildren Maegan Lockett, Jesse Lupo, Joshua, Caitlin, and David Lesko, as well as several nieces and nephews and her loving cat Allie. A retiree of IBM, Margie joined the company in Bethesda, MD, and retired in 1987 in Owego, NY. After retirement she and her husband Bob established their woodworking business, “Margie’s Miniatures” and wedding video business, “Precious Memories on Video.” She was a member of Common Threads Quilt Guild of Vestal, the Tuesday class at Patchwork Angels Quilt Shop, and a long-time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Endicott. She was a dedicated volunteer for Mended Hearts at the Cardiac Care Unit at Wilson Memorial Hospital and a caregiver for many years to her husband Bob. Some of her greatest enjoyments included participating in her grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events and never missed a game or concert. She loved spending time at her and Bob’s summer home in Rehoboth Beach, DE, during earlier years. Margie was a wonderful cook and especially enjoyed preparing meals for her family during the holidays. She spent her free time quilting, reading, and volunteering for church activities. Margie would instantly light up any room with her presence. She had the biggest heart, making everyone feel part of her family. She was a beautiful person with a beautiful soul. Margie and her family would like to thank all of the amazing doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants during her time spent in the Neuro-Suite, CCU, and ICU at Wilson Memorial Hospital. Many heartfelt thanks go to Father John Martinichio, the McAvoy family, Michael Lesko, John Rao, Kermit Roane, Larry Rafferty, and many other wonderful friends and neighbors for their care and compassion over the years.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 2, between 3:30 and 5:30 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 200 Jefferson Avenue, Endicott. Funeral services will begin at 5:30 with Reverend John Martinichio officiating. Margie will be laid to rest in Woodlawn National Cemetery alongside her husband Bob. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Margie’s memory can be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital of Boston, MA, or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church CHOW pantry in Endicott.
