Margaret “Peggy” Schmidt

d. September 15, 2015

On September 15, 2015, Margaret Ann (Peggy Coon) Schmidt of Endicott, NY, all of 51 young years, died at home of lung cancer and became one of the special angels in heaven. This world has lost a good one. She was born in Binghamton, NY, on November 27, 1963, daughter of Dorothy and the late Walter Coon. Peggy graduated from Seton Catholic Central High School in 1981 and from Broome Community College in 1983. Peggy leaves behind her dearest companion, friend, lover and husband Douglas, married May 12, 1990, her children Nolan and Mariah, nine siblings, many nieces and nephews, and so many valued friends. Peggy’s most treasured gifts to the world are Nolan and Mariah, individuals with large dreams and core values of respect, faith, caring, love, integrity, cooperation, and beauty. Peggy and Doug gave them the tools to not only succeed in life, but succeed in being authentic people of character. While of modest means, Peggy always made life decisions not on finances, but on what her children needed. Peggy left this world knowing that her gifts to us are exceptional people. Peggy’s career as Office Assistant for over 20 years was dedicated to the Lourdes Hospital system’s Binghamton and Endicott Primary Care offices where she welcomed and was loved by thousands of patients and co-workers. Peggy was selfless, thinking of others’ needs and concerns. That smile hid an impish side of her, as she was the one who created and organized the silly group games at every family event, games which left us all laughing in tears. She was mischievous and fun-loving, had a sparkle in her eyes that was sure to put a smile on your face. She loved life and having fun, and enabling others to have fun as well. Peggy has left us with cherished memories. Peggy was a generous soul, with a strong faith, the person who helped with the care of her 90 year old mother, volunteered at Danielle House, cooked meals for people in need and participated in many fundraisers for her church. Surviving siblings are Dennis (Cindi) of Syracuse, NY, James (Rosemarie) of Sarasota, FL, William (Lori) of Trumansburg, NY, Timothy (Joan) of Latham, NY, Michael (Sandy) of Clarence, NY, Maureen of Trentwoods, NC, Patricia Mariano (Joseph) of Endicott, NY, Kathy of Wellington, FL, and Mary of Fairport, NY; andnine nephews andsix nieces.

Funeral Services will be held Friday at 12:30 pm from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, at 1 pm. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Thursday from 4-7 pm.
