She is survived by her children, Vanessa (Michael) Elswick, Charlottesville, VA, Donald F. (Gloria) Adams, Piscataway, NJ, Kathleen (Robert) Nedbalski, Endicott, NY, Linda Adams Monroe (Pete Katz), Charlottesville, VA, one granddaughter, Marguerite (Kwame) Osei-Wusu, five grandsons, Kenneth Nedbalski, Zachary Nedbalski, Michael Adams (Bethany), Ryan Monroe (Tiara), Kyle Monroe, two great granddaughters, Hermione Monroe and Pia Osei-Wusu, and one great grandson, Shaun Larraburu, brother and sisters-in-law, Richard Huopana, Arlene Powell, Pauline Shea, one step-brother, Steven (Roberta) Powell, three step-sisters, Sheila (Jim) Leeper, Denise (Alan) Stadler, and Maura Powell, along with many loving nieces and nephews, and a lifetime friend, Jean Picciano, (Godmother Jean). Marguerite was a Union-Endicott graduate and a U-E Cheerleader. She worked in New York City on Wall Street and later at IBM Endicott as a keypunch operator. She worked as an EKG/EEG Technician employed by Ideal Hospital. In 1974 Don and Marguerite purchased a building in Owego, NY and opened a Tavern, which they named John Barleycorn and were proprietors for 23 years and made many dear friends. After retiring Marguerite and Don became snowbirds in Destin, Florida, and Myrtle Beach, SC. They enjoyed walking the beautiful white sand beaches accompanied by visiting family and friends. Marguerite enjoyed her travels to San Francisco, New York City, Caribbean Islands, Aruba, and Italy with family and friends. Marguerite was proud of her “Bornt Hill” house that she and Don built together. Over the years, she enjoyed many get-togethers with neighbors and friends, but especially enjoyed her family gatherings in her home. She was a wonderful cook and was best known for her lasagna, squash stew, and apple pies. Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her lily gardens cultivated by her husband and son Donnie. Her son cross-bread and nationally registered a lily in honor of his Mother and named it Marguerite. She loved walking among the many vibrant colors and varietals in her gardens. Marguerite’s beauty, kindness and strength will forever be in our hearts. The family would like to extend a thank you to The United Methodist Homes for their loving care and compassion during her illness.
The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home 511-513 East Main Street Endicott on Friday from 5-7 pm. Entombment will be at the convenience of the family at Riverhurst Cemetery.
