Marguerite (‘Peggy’) Eileen Depew (Eck), 96, of Endicott NY, passed away at Vestal Park Nursing Center on August 29, 2021.
Peggy was born in Williamsport, PA but lived most of her life in the Endicott NY area. She worked for several restaurants in the Endicott area prior to opening her own ‘Peggy’s Place” on Nanticoke Ave. She loved cooking, baking and mingling with the customers. She was especially known for the pies that she made. After her restaurant closed, she continued to work as a waitress before retiring her apron. She loved hosting family picnics and traveling. She went on many trips with friends and family from camping to horse races and cruises. She loved going on shopping trips and wine tours with her daughters. She always told Dad, “I don’t know when I’ll be home, I’m going with the girls”.
Peggy was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Herbert Depew followed by her companion of 17 years, Kenneth Titman. Her parents (Bessie & Theodore Eck), Her Brothers (Theodore, Bernard, Joe Eck), Sisters (Dorothy Phelps, Mary Peters).
Peggy was the Matriarch of a large family all of whom she loved very much. She is survived by her children, Bess Kurtz of Owego, NY, Patricia Vandermark (Mike) of Endicott, NY, Janette Bernstein (David) of Toms River, NJ, Laura Oakley (Larry) of Owego, NY, Herbert Depew (Cathy) of Endicott, NY, Susan Edwards (Doug) of Apalachin, NY., 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Her sisters, Barbara Beebe and Betty Rando (Tom) both of Endicott, NY. and many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Endicott, NY, a lifelong member of the Endicott Elk’s club and a member of the Endicott Legion Post 1700.
The family would like to thank all the special caregivers at the Vestal Park Nursing Center. She became a loving friend to many there.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday 11 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 701 West Main Street, Endicott. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends at church Thursday from 10 am until Mass time at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Campville Fire Station, 6153 State Route 17C, Endicott NY or Our Lady of Good Counsel Soup Kitchen, 701 West Main Street Endicott NY.
