Marie Neylan (Norris) of Endwell, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away suddenly Monday January 25, 2016. Marie is survived by her children Ellen Neylan and wife Carolyn Natrin of Philadelphia, PA; Jeffrey Neylan and wife Kera (Stanley) of Rochester, NY;and Timothy Neylan of San Diego CA; the lights of her life, her grandchildren,Emma and Grace of Rochester, NYand Matthew, Katherine and Sean Neylan; brother Richard Norris; sisters-in-law; Mary Anne Neylan,Margaret Neylan, Patricia Norris and Joyce Kallfelz(Paul);numerous nieces and nephews who she cherished like her own; her “adopted” daughters Maddie Gates and Kim Kwiatkowski. Marie leaves behind countless special friends far too many to mention, but know who they are.She is predeceased by her husband John Neylan; brothers James and Robert Norris; sisters-in-law Joan Norris and Trish Norris; brother-in-law Joseph Neylan; and her adored niece, Sara Norris. Marie graduated from St. Paul’s High School and went on to marry the love of her life.Marie and Johnny lived in Binghamton NY; Dryden, NY; Lewiston, NY; Langhorne, PA and Amherst, NY before returning home to Endicott in 1987.Marie had a long career in communications and worked at Wilson Memorial Hospital for 25 years until suffering a stroke in 2013.Thereafter, Marie resided at Good Shepard Village where she loved her apartment, lived a life full of activities and formed many lasting friendships.Marie and Johnny were also long time members of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Endicott. Marie never met a person she couldn’t strike up a conversation with and made you feel like an old friend in short order.She kept an active social calendar with NYC trips, Broadway plays, concerts, water aerobics, church activities, and trips to Rochester and Philadelphia to visit her children and grandchildren. Marie loved to cook for her family and friends and entertained frequently.She was a voracious reader.Her favorite holiday was St. Patrick’s Day and she rarely turned down a 2nd Manhattan. She loved her Irish heritage and wore it proudly. Former season ticket holders, Marie and Johnny loved their Buffalo Bills and some of their fondest memories were tailgating in Orchard Park, especially when family from Binghamton came to visit. Post-game conversations still took place every week.
Funeral Services will be held Friday 8:30 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 9 am. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Pak Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Thursday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie’s memory at Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell, NY 13760.
