Marie Sarnecky

Marie Bennett Sarnecky, of Endwell, NY, born January 24, 1926. Our most beautiful mother passed away peacefully on September 9, 2012. Marie was born in Philadelphia, PA to Giovanni and Conchetta Presti. Marie was predeceased by her first husband Jack G. Bennett in 1977 and her second husband Fred Sarnecky in 2009, her sister Anne Arcaro and her husband Tony and her in-laws, Bill and Rosemary Bennett, Andy and Anita Shyptycki, Steve and Pam Elko, George and Viola Kachmarik; a special niece Anita Svoboda and nephew Ken Crerar. She is survived by her four children; John Bennett of Endwell; Mark and Colleen Bennett, Endwell; Phillip and Lucia Bennett, Italy; and Carol Bennett Scalzo, Boston. Marie loved and was extremely proud of her three grandchildren, Tyler Bennett, Bennett Scalzo and Adrianna Scalzo: and many nieces and nephews. Additionally, she is survived by her three stepsons, Steve, Chris, and Fred Sarnecky Jr. Mom was a terrific dancer; we loved watching Mom and Dad float across the dance floor to big band music. She loved having friends and family around for any occasion, and she had many friends she loved like sisters. She was a competitive bridge player and loved hosting the game. When she was no longer able to attend, these kind ladies would bring the card game to her. She was a great Sicilian cook known for her meatballs. She traveled around the world and for everyone she visited she would make her delicious meatballs and sauce. She loved being a Mom and it showed. (Thank you, Mom!) She enjoyed packing up (with friends and family) and picnicking out at Chenango Valley State Park to take us kids swimming in the summer and sled riding in the winter with hot chocolate and lunches by the fire. Mom will be remembered as a warm-hearted person who made fine and lasting friendships. Mom, you taught us right from wrong, to respect all people and to laugh and love with all of our hearts. We will always miss you. We would like to thank the fine and caring staff of Ideal Nursing Center and Wilson Hospital for making her final months cheerful and comfortable.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday 10 am at Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, Friday from 4-7 pm.
