Martin (Marty) Joseph Domiano, 84, of Apalachin, NY, passed away at UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, NY on Friday, July 9, 2021 after a long battle following an injury.
He was predeceased by his mother Ida (Chellis) Domiano and his father Joseph Domiano as well as his brother-in-law David Greer.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Ann Domiano nee McHale. Loving father of Michele (Alan) Jones and dear grandfather of Dylan Jones. Dear Brother of Jeanette (Russell) Richardson, Joseph (Diane) Domiano, Barbara (Philip) Sharr and Nancy Greer. Dear brother in law to John and Mary Alice Kazista and John and Judy McHale. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Martin Joseph Domiano was born June 26, 1937 to Ida (Chellis) and Joseph Domiano in Old Forge, Pennsylvania.
Marty graduated from Old Forge High School as President of his class. He graduated from Penn State with an Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering. Here he was a member of the student council and Sigma Epsilon Sigma Honor Society. In addition, he has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics from the University of Scranton. During his time at the University of Scranton, he was Vice-President and President of the Evening College. He was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities and attained membership in the International Jesuit Honor Society – Alpha Sigma Nu, as well as membership in the American Institute of Physics - Sigma Pi Sigma.
Marty was a pole climber in the National Guard and was active duty in the Army.
He worked at Babcock & Wilcox, IBM and Menasha in various engineering and managerial roles and enjoyed a rewarding career.
He was a long-standing member of St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church since 1969. He was a member of the Fine Arts Society, ran the Moonlighters Dance Club and was a member of the Cadence Dance Club, Cotillion Dance Club, and Let’s Dance Club.
In addition to his devotion to his wife and daughter, he had a special place in his heart for his grandson Dylan whom from witnessing his birth until his injury was the apple of his eye. Marty loved to fix things – be it cars, the house, or any other miscellaneous item. He was an avid reader and loved cross word puzzles. He loved to paint, especially portraits. He collected coins and watches, was a member of the bowling league, and in his younger years was an established marksman.
Our gratitude to the staff at UHS Wilson Medical Center – who became family to us during this long and difficult journey. Although we touched many in their organization, we would like to extend special thanks to the following folks in the Surgical Step down unit in South tower 4th floor – Dr. Samuels, nurses – Sarah & Julia, social workers – Kim and Megan, as well as Colleen in the Visitor check-in area, and Gary and his team in security.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday 11 am at St. Margaret Mary’s Church, Pennsylvania Avenue, Apalachin. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Old Forge, PA. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott Tuesday from 4-6 pm. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in his memory can be made to the American Red Cross.
